Our Story
We started NEHI with collaboration in mind
NEHI was founded in 2002 as the New England Healthcare Institute by Henri Termeer (then CEO of Genzyme), Harris Berman (then CEO of Tufts Health Plan), Charlie Baker (then CEO Of Harvard Pilgrim Health Care), along with other influential health care leaders to enable direct conversations between payers and pharmaceutical and biotechnology companies to identify, debate and seek solutions to common health care issues – and then create policy change.
Today, we maintain that mission, although we have expanded the dialogue to include constituents from across the health care system. We are committed to driving better health outcomes and value in health care through interdisciplinary collaboration and innovation. We have also increased our focus in three areas: healthcare value and payment innovations, equitable access to innovation, and expanding access to mental health care.

NEHI is a national nonprofit, nonpartisan organization composed of stakeholders from all key health and health care sectors. Our mission is to advance innovations that increase quality and value in health care by fostering interdisciplinary collaboration that addresses adoption and policy challenges.
What do we do?
NEHI consults with our broad membership, and conducts independent, objective research and convenings, to accelerate these innovations and bring about changes within health care and in public policy.
How are we unique?
We offer a unique forum for our members to confer across sectors and collaborate on solutions to some of the toughest issues in health and health care. We move ideas into action within the policy realm and the private sector.
When were we founded?
Founded in 2002 as New England Healthcare Institute, in 2014 we became NEHI (Network for Excellence in Health Innovation).

How are we funded?
NEHI is a 501(c) (3) nonprofit organization that is dependent upon gifts and grants from corporations, foundations, members and individuals to support its work. All donations are tax-deductible to the full extent of tax laws.
