About 40 percent of Americans are obese, and the U.S. is well on its way to reaching a 50 percent obesity rate by 2030. The rising rate of obesity continues to pull up rates of type 2 diabetes, and rising rates of type 2 diabetes may well reverse hard fought gains in cardiovascular health Americans have achieved over several decades.
Prevention and treatment of both obesity and type 2 diabetes remain an urgent public health priority, and a critical priority for the population health management the U.S. health care system is counting upon to achieve sustainable rates of health care spending. In 2019 NEHI convened a panel of key opinion leaders among patient advocates, clinicians, payment experts and biopharma leaders to reassess priorities for action. A new NEHI policy brief enumerates several recommendations for action.
Please join us for an in-depth conversation with two of our leading key opinion leaders: Dr. Angela Fitch of Massachusetts General Hospital, and Dr. Robert Gabbay of the Joslin Diabetes Center.
