Pioneers in Payment Innovation: The MA and NC BCBS Plans

NEHI Live recording, materials and recap of September 13th webinar

On September 13 NEHI featured two member organizations in a "NEHI Live" webinar on health care payment innovation. Blue Cross Blue Shield of Massachusetts and Blue Cross Blue Shield of North Carolina are leaders at the cutting-edge of innovative payment models of provider payment.

The webinar explored recent performance results from BCBSMA's decade-old Alternative Quality Contract (AQC) which many see as a precursor to the Accountable Care Organization (ACO) payment model. Meanwhile BCBSNC is leading one of the most sweeping transformations of provider reform in the country, including a major reinvestment in primary care throughout North Carolina.

Matt Day, Senior Vice President of BCBSMA, and Troy Smith Vice President of Health Care Strategy & Payment Transformation at BCBSNC, joined the September 13 webinar led by NEHI's Tom Hubbard.
