On Tuesday, October 27 NEHI hosted a virtual briefing for Massachusetts policymakers and its membership on the status of value-based arrangements for pharmaceuticals in Massachusetts. The briefing ("Next Generation Value-based Arrangements in Massachusetts: The Road Ahead") featured four distinguished experts. Dr. Michael Sherman, Chief Medical Officer of Harvard Pilgrim Health Care, a national leader in payment innovation, offered his perspective on the strength and limitations of "VBAs," while Dan Wygal of AstraZeneca (another leading innovator) offered a manufacturer's perspective. Eleanor Perfetto of the National Health Council and Annie Kennedy of the EveryLife Foundation for Rare Diseases offered insights on how future VBAs can be designed to better meet the unique needs of patients. NEHI looks forward to following up with Massachusetts policymakers in the months ahead as Massachusetts state government resumes consideration of health care reform legislation.
