NEHI’s latest webinar on February 6th focused on the ever-growing crisis of unhealthy weight and type 2 diabetes in the United States. The webinar featured commentary from two leading physicians, Dr. Angela Fitch of Massachusetts General Hospital Weight Center and the Obesity Medicine Association, and Dr. Robert Gabbay, Chief Medical Officer of Joslin Diabetes Center and editor-in-chief of “Evidence-Based Diabetes Management.” 
 
Dr. Fitch and Dr. Gabbay gave the NEHI audience their perspective on the changing scientific understanding of obesity:
  • Why the pervasive stigma around obesity is neither supported by science -- it’s “chemistry, not character” -- nor a constructive factor in public health
  • Why physicians are now urging more aggressive medical treatment of obesity
  • And how a new generation of medications is improving care for type 2 diabetes while offsetting an otherwise alarming rise in risks for cardiovascular diseases
