Big gaps in the exchange of data and information throughout the health care system are impeding efforts to address the opioid epidemic, NEHI (the Network for Excellence in Health Innovation) reported in a policy brief released today.

NEHI (the Network for Excellence in Health Innovation) yesterday submitted recommendations to the Centers for Medicare and Medicaid Services (CMS), in response to the Request for Information soliciting proposals for “new directions” for the Center for Medicare and Medicaid Innovation, or CMMI.

NEHI (the Network for Excellence in Health Innovation) called today for a series of regulatory steps and other actions to enable new payment arrangements for high cost cancer drugs. Known as “value-based” or “outcomes-based” contracts, such arrangements tie payments to measurable results in patients, in contrast to prevailing arrangements that tie prices and discounts to the volume of drugs purchased.
